Our Mission
To support the people of Afghanistan in reaching a peaceful status among themselves, their neighbors and countries around the world by building bridges for mutual understanding and trust between communities in Afghanistan and Delaware; developing educational opportunities for children, especially girls; assisting in vocational training; providing improved health service infrastructure and fostering economic recovery at the grassroots level. We seek these ends through primarily private funding and volunteer efforts.
About Us
Afghanistan Delaware Communities Together, Inc. ("AFDECT") is an IRS-registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed in 2002 in the aftermath of 9/11 to help bring education to Afghan children, especially girls, and assist in
creating opportunities so that Afghanistan can reestablish a peaceful place for its people, its neighbors and for the region.
We are a 100% volunteer organization in the United
States and have only one paid staff member in Afghanistan, who
monitors and facilitates our projects. At last calculation, more
than 90% of donated funds had gone directly to projects in
Afghanistan.
Since our creation by Founder Bill Gordon and a number of dedicated supporters and contributors from Delaware, the surrounding communities and across the nation, the Khalil Zaman Girls School was built in Jabul Seraj, it successfully opened in June 2005, and is now the site for 1200 children attending classes; girls in the morning and boys in the afternoon.
